About
I’m Abdulrahman, a software engineer. I care about what happens after the code ships: whether the product works for the people using it and for the business behind it. Most of my work is on the backend and the infrastructure under it, and I like owning a piece of work from the first design to production.
Along the way I’ve helped break a monolith into microservices without downtime, connected platforms to the third-party systems they depend on, and rolled out monitoring and alerting across cloud infrastructure. I’ve also built marketing automation, investment tools and a design system, and graph visualization and AI-assisted communication tools.
What I work on
- Backend systems. Node.js, NestJS, and GraphQL services, queues with dead-letter handling and idempotency, and webhook delivery that survives failures. I open-sourced an SQS transport for NestJS.
- Integrations. Connecting platforms to third-party systems with authentication, authorization, and per-tenant rate limits.
- Infrastructure. AWS, EKS and Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and Docker, with an eye on what it all costs. Running GitHub Actions on AWS Spot is one example.
- Reliability. Observability with Datadog, alerting, and performance work grounded in measurements.
- AI agents. Building agents, and using coding agents in a real engineering workflow. I’ve run sessions on working effectively with AI tools, and I keep my agent configuration public.
- Developer experience. CI/CD and faster builds. I’ve mentored junior engineers along the way.
I mostly write TypeScript and Python, and I’ve shipped frontends in React, Next.js, React Native, and Flutter.
Background
I studied Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering at Ain Shams University in Cairo, where I applied C/C++, electronics, and control systems in robotics and automation projects and was part of the IEEE ASU Student Branch. My first software role was an internship at M3ntorship, building production websites for nonprofit organizations.
I speak Arabic natively and English at C2 level.
Talk to me about
Backend and infrastructure problems that have to hold up in production, running CI and cloud infrastructure on a budget, and AI agents: building them, and fitting them into a real engineering workflow.
I’m open to conversations about new roles, consulting, and building products with people who want to ship something real. Email is the fastest way to reach me.
